In the south of the Netherlands we also had a lot of colemines. The idiotic Dutch gouvernment just shut them down between 1964 and 1974
lost your jobs saved your childrens future :)
It's insane they don't wear masks.
So the economy is crap and there’s no jobs and they do this?!
@ 0:41 that is empirically false, coal is by far the cheapest source of energy. just ask china and india or any other developing nation that has the common sense to use the cheapest source of energy available.
Like George Carlin said. Loose the face junk. Its been done.

There is no such a thing as "clean coal," a word that is used by some politicians in the United States. To be precise, there is no such a thing as burning clean coal because no mater how you do it, the by products of burning coal are hazards not only for the environment but the health of people as well.
It started pretty well and than the video became of so poor quality that it's hard to watch, around 3:50 VICE starts talking about
"what does the community do when jobs are closed" or that the economy gets a hole and what not.... open a book, attend classes, use the WWW, reeducate yourself, stop being lazy.
Spain because of their geographical location and surroundings has (in my opinion) ALOT of options. It's not a problem for the coal miners to create new jobs if they want to.

It's like the miner that took early retirement at age 43.... Really?

No one in EU has the moral right to say they cannot adapt to a changing world, because we have free movement of people, goverment aid and all the options we need to keep evolving with the world.
But it requires WORK.
What those people are owed is another start, they want and need to feel useful which is why they should have slowly transitioned them into other job sectors of their choosing a couple of years before hand, training paid by the government/via taxes (before you say shit, they paid their shit in too and atleast deserve a fair chance of job transitioning to be useful member of society), remember the government and people are the ones who technically took their job away and this is only fair.
Weird looking reporter lol
VICE has done an awful job explaining the REAL REASON: Sadly, the Spanish coal deposits are small and narrow and only offer 4,500 th, instead of the 6,000 of the Australian coal. So, the Spanish Coal Industry is just not competitive and has survived just on subsidies. For an Spanish Coal Miner, to equal the the thermies an Australian Coal Miner digs in 10 minuts, he has to dig for half a day.
"At least a few politicians deserve the gallows over this" I love the radicalism of real workers instead of those white collar, middle class "compromise, compromise lets vote Hillary next time and see if it makes a difference" type of people.
4:04 "Quiqueeeee! larga a tomar por culo aquí ya!"
Or in english "Quique! go take it in the ass now out of here"
Well, they're miners right? Open up mines for other precious metals? Because copper, iron, silver, gold, zinc, nickle and others are very necessary today. And if there was a surplus of it, Spain could sell it, and make money from the profits, along with allowing for the surplus of the ores to drive down prices on the finished products, allowing for countries around the world to procure these finished metals easier, as well as businesses that rely on these metals to acquire them at the cheaper price. The miners would also be able to keep the similar job, and use their honed skills and recognition of safe conditions to mine efficiently and safely.
something poland should do years ago.
Spain already has no jobs
You can do the same video in Delta county Colorado
