Back when railroads were king and people worked hard! half of the people in hazleton don't even know the history of the mines and the railroads its sad to say with the forgotton places in time like Ashmore yard on the Lehigh valley railroad , hazlebrook, the Stocktons ,jeddo coal company its nice to sit back and see how nice hazleton was at a point in time then wonder what happened and where we went wrong that made it such a sh**hole today
Did you go back and explore this mine further?
Great video my family has deep roots in coal mining on both mines various great grandfathers and great great grandfathers and even great great great grandfathers and more uncles and cousins than I can remember worked in the mines in Scranton, Exeter, Hazleton, Wilkes Barre, Wanamie, Ashley and few more in between this video was a great honor to them the brave hardworking men who spent there lives in the dark to start a new life and provide for there families.
This is a great video! So glad you were able to capture this all in time and stayed safe!
When they recovered the mine hope no one was in there
Did you guys use anything to check the air? Was there any flow in there at all? Just wondering because I didn't see anyone checking with anything. Exposed coal absorbs oxygen from the air as it breaks down and gives off Co2. In mines without much ventilation, it can build up, especially in low areas but it can fill the entire mine. If you walk into it, you can pass out before you realise your in it. Best to move along slowly and keep checking the air as you go, especially near the ground. For example that slope where it goes down could have had bad air even 20 foot inside the tunnel. Obviously it was ok at this time because you all lived. Certain times of the year are worse with various temperatures. Those old books and things still intact down there was really neat!
