About: Kellingley Colliery: Britain's last coal mine closes

community destroyed, left to rot, ship builders, miners, cant beat the sixties
Almost all my dads family from Newcastle upon Tyne and my mums family from Nottingham used to be coal miners
Dumb bastards shutting it down
Well we only have the EU and their free trade policies to thank. A simple tariff on imported coal would have saved all of Britain's mines but we weren't allowed to do that thanks to the EU. While other industrial countries in Europe are getting rich exporting thousands of tonnes of coal to the UK every day our own miners and their families are left jobless, thank God we have left the EU
Co2 is plant food... get our mines open and our strong men working!!
These men should have been given jobs in the green climate , not left out to dry.
It is interesting how the anti-communist thatcher helped those chinese swines by ruining britains economy. now, the coal (and also tin) have to be mined there and transported to the UK (and other european countries) even though many of those still have giant coal reserves (germany, austria, belgium, france too).
its was very sad to lose this pit i would have preferred , them not to open selby and keep this open ,As the pits in selby were a waste of time in hindsight ., they never lasted and maybe if they had not opened . It would have secured kellingly , its futrue for longer as it was their heritage , Where as in selby coal never was its heritage , the Shipyard, Bocm and Flour mill, was in selby for a 100 years that was their heritage, not coal.
Now we got to choose retail work or the dole
Proper mans job
Send them to PA we need more miners to replace the aging miners. Plus the work days are shorter, pay is better, workings aren’t as filthy and the communities are safe and clean. Also the underground work is safe to.
Would folks prefer to pay £12.50 for a bag of Polish coal, or £16 a bag for British coal..? There's your answer.
What Thatcher did to the miners and the poor in general was hugely damaging, but the mining industry had been in decline since 1913. This was always the fate of Britain’s coal mines
Ex Agecroft.. NCB North West👍🏻
Two Collieries still working in Neath area of South Wales. So why do they say last Coal mined in UK ?
But we buy Russian or polish coal now!! Wtf
The problem is that they closed the mines but WHY the government didn't create industry or something to give the people where to work, dignified, worthy jobs, worthy salaries. They closed but what happened with so many workers?
Fucking Tory basrards
Tory bastards killed UK industry :-(
What! We buy foreign coal for the power station next door!!
