I live right in front of this!!! And took the tour in the car! How did u get special treatment ??
We reopened that Orchard Vein Gangway in the beginning of the video. It was the original tour to just that point in the 1960s. The two chambers that go up were driven for coal to run the steam locomotive. You can only see one chamber now because we covered the second one. It was driven outside as a second opening and dirt kept running down, so we closed it off. It took all winter in 2007 and some of 2008 to completely clean all the rock falls and retimber that section. It was a fun project and our start of underground Mine work.

Timbers are still used in some bituminous mines mainly in the low seams where the Room and Pillar mining method is still used.
